Attestation of Power of Attorney


1.    Legalization/Attestation of Power of Attorney : For legalization/attestation of any documents such as power of attorney or any documents of similar nature, the signatory (ies)/executant(s) is (are) required to appear before the Consular Officer at Bangladesh Consulate General in New York along with their Bangladesh Machine Rreadable Pssport. The following procedure has to be followed:

      a. Submit filled in Application Form;

     b. Applicable Fees (per document) is US$44.00 for normal delivery next working day and US$82.50 for urgent delivery on same working day between 3.30 to 5.00 PM. Fees should be paid in the form of money order/bank draft/certified cheque only drawn in favour of Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York and write purchaser's name and address. Please note that personal cheque (s) or cash are not accepted. All fees are non-refundable even if you decide to withdraw your application;

    c. Submit the original copy of the document after notzrization by a notary purlic alongwith photocopy of the document;

   d. Submit 2 (two) Passport Size photographs of executant and attorney (both) with name printed on the back;                    and

 e. Bring alongwith Machine readable Bangladesh Passport/Dual Nationality Certificate (DNC)/National ID with photocopy (first seven pages) to the Consulate General of Bangladesh;

2.    Certification : For certification, the applicant must appear in person before the Consular Officerwith original copies of supporting documents and submit copies of the same with application form.

Please Note:

For Power of Attorney executant or Signatory have to appear in person before the consular officer for thumb impression & signature in photographs. If the signatory/executant is unable to produce his/her Machine Readable Bangladesh passport of original copy of the Dual Nationality Certificate or National ID the following procedure has to be followed with regard to the submission of the document.

  • Notarization by a Notary Public;
  • Authentication of commission of the Notary Public by the City/County Clerk;
  • Authentication of the City/County Clerk by the Office of the Secretary of the State in which the document has been notarized;
  • Authentication by the Department of State of the US Government.

After obtaining such authentication, the document may be submitted along with a photocopy, for attestation/legalization. The application must include filled in application form and fees as mentioned at Para 1(b). The original document will be returned  while the photocopy will be retained by the Consulate General. 

3. Attestation of Documents:

The Consulate General attests documents which have prior authentication by concerned authorities.

Bangladesh cocuments: For attestation, any document originating in Bangladesh (like marriage certificate, birth certificate, police clearance, etc.) must contain the attestation of the Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka. 

US documents: likewise, any document originating in the USA (certificate of incorporation, tax return, etc) must have the authentication by the US Department of States. For such authentication, please visit the website of the US Department of State.

Education Certificate : Any educational certificate by a Board or University in Bangldesh, must have prior authentication by the respective Board or the University as well as that of the Consular Section of the Ministry of Foreign Affair, Dhaka. 

4.  Incse the document  has to be returned by mail, the applicat should provide a self-addressed postage-paid return envelope preferable through USPS (certified/express or priority mail with signature confirmation) or through FedEx/UPS/DHL. The Consulate General does no take any responsibility if any document lost through postal mail or any other mail.  

All consular documents should be picked up within 60 days from the date of delivery. The Consulate General does not take any responsibility for any document, if delivery is not taken within the stipulated time.

পাওয়ার অব অ্যটর্নি প্রমাণীকরণের (authentication) জন্য নিম্নলিখিত বিষয়াদি অনুসরণ করিতে হইবে:

(১)         পাওয়ারদাতা (Executant) এবং পাওয়ারপ্রহীতা (Attorney) উভয়ের জাতীয় পরিচয়পত্র বা দ্বৈত নাগরিকত্বের সনদ বা মেশিন রিডেবল পাসপোর্টের ফটোকপি ( দাখিল করিতে হইবে )

(২)     দলিলে পক্ষগণের অভিপ্রায় প্রতিফলনের প্রয়োজনীয় তথ্যাদিসহ পাওয়ারদাতা কর্তৃক প্রদেয় এবং পাওয়ারগ্রহীতা কর্তৃক সম্পাদিতব্য ক্ষমতা ও দায়িত্বসমূহের সুষ্পষ্ঠ বিবরণ;

(৩)       আর্থিক দায় ও দায়িত্ব, যদি থাকে;

(৪)      প্রযোজ্য ক্ষেত্রে, সম্পত্তির পূর্ণ বিবরণ;

(৫)      প্রদেয় ক্ষমতা প্রয়োগের নির্দিষ্ট মেয়াদ, যদি থাকে;

(৬)     প্রযোজ্য ক্ষেত্রে, রেজিস্ট্রেশন আইনের অধীন  Section 52A তে বিধৃত  বিষয়ের বিবরণ;

(৭)     পক্ষগণের  অভিপ্রায় প্রতিফলনের নিমিত্ত অন্য কোন তথ্য বা বিশেষ শর্ত;

(৮)    স্থাবর সম্পত্তি অন্তর্ভূক্ত থাকলে বিধিমালার তফসিল ক এর ফরম-২ অনুসরণত্রমে পাওয়াদাতা                    প্রদত্ত  হলফনামা ।
